If the United States goes to war with Iran, you are unlikely to hear the word “oil” uttered by top Trump administration officials, but make no mistake: that three-letter word lies at the root of the present crisis, not to speak of the world’s long-term fate.
Oil exports from the Persian Gulf have been peaking in the last 3 years 2016-2018 at around 22.3 mb/d. That was before the US sanctions on Iran were tightened in the 1st half of 2019.
For everyone following today’s energy developments the overall picture is confusing, to say the least.
While awaiting further developments in the Syrian poison gas crisis, it is good time to review the general deterioration going on across the Middle East and the outlook for oil production from the region.
