There is no more important question for us to grapple with than the question of how our community and larger society should be organized. We need to clarify what we mean by ‘community’ and think about what design we should strive for, because if you want sustainability and equality at the end of the day, you have to build them in at the start.
Here is a post offering hope to those who consider themselves ’spaced out,’ ADHD (attention deficit), scattered, air-headed, a Space Cowboy, forgetful, inconsistent, unreliable and the like. There IS hope for you, and you can prep.
You know you’re living in a chaotic situation when (1) the mainstream media are constantly surprised by what is happening; (2) short-term predictions by various pundits go in radically different directions and are stated with many reserves; (3) the Establishment dares to say things or use words that were previously taboo; (4) ordinary people are frightened and angry but very unsure what to do.

If the United States is becoming a Third World nation, as last week’s Archdruid Report post suggests, one unexpected resource with particular relevance to relocalization is the alternative approach to economic development in the Third World proposed by maverick economist E.F. Schumacher.
The world is immensely complicated, and the forces of sweeping change may overall boost transition towns for their positive contribution. Or as Ted Trainer lays out below, a course correction is needed now.
With any reasonably successful blog, you have a conversation going on, often between an author and commenters who have a long history and background, and people coming into the conversation for the first time…Balancing the degree to which you write for the regulars and to those new to you is always an interesting exercise.
When I think about dyed-in-the-wool, dystopian End-of-the-Worlders, MarketWatch’s Paul Farrell does not come to mind. I think of Club Orlov and its Honorary Members, people like Jim Kunstler or others in the Club who I have talked to in the past.
