People who live in Toronto’s Black Creek community come from over 30 countries. They are mostly poor. But they know how to organize a fun and effective meeting about a painful, complicated and widespread problem they all face — hunger!
The Friendly Streets Initiative grew out of a group of volunteers working with various neighborhood organizations to make biking and walking safer in St. Paul.
And it appears that the islands of the Coast Salish Sea, recognizing that there is an overarching structure that has not fed and supported us, is embracing this concept to truly “over grow the system.”
Ultimately, generosity attracts more interest than self-interest. Respect, collaboration and meaningful values are more likely to be successful in building community.
I suppose that’s what my creative practice is: I do something with the objective of trying to raise awareness and people trying to get a message across, it’s designed around that.
