Cooperation is the key to addressing environmental and social crises, but as conditions worsen in the “Great Unraveling,” cooperation becomes, paradoxically, harder and harder to achieve. With political polarization already on the rise in the US, Europe, and many other places around the globe, what should we anticipate as the polycrisis deepens? And how can we, as citizens and community members, counter the forces that lead towards “othering” of those with different identities and political views, and instead create conditions for belonging and collaboration?
This live online event on October 8, 2024 featured Lilliana Mason, Associate Professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University and author of Radical American Partisanship, and Cecilie Surasky, Director of Communications & Narrative at the Othering & Belonging Institute. Post Carbon Institute’s Asher Miller will join Lilliana and Cecilie for an expansive conversation on the drivers of polarization and othering, and methods for fostering belonging and mutuality.
