BAGHDAD – Iraq’s new prime minister told the nation that U.S-led coalition troops should remain even after the June 30 handover of power to an Iraqi government.
Iyad Allawi used his first nationally televised address on Friday to tell Iraqis that the withdrawal of coalition forces would be a disaster.
He was speaking on the U.S.-funded Al-Iraqiyah station. It was also carried on the more popular Arab satellite stations Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiyah.
