Social coops offer a wholly new model of social care. They are community-led, multi-stakeholder, democratically governed, and highly relational. Community benefit, not maximum profit, is prioritized to provide high-quality care.

From small towns to large cities throughout the country, a significant shift towards workplace democracy and equitable wealth sharing is gaining momentum. At the forefront of this movement are worker-owned cooperative businesses, where employees work and share ownership and decision-making.

In a time of growing social and environmental challenges, the need for radical, bold, and fresh ideas could not be more clear — reshaping our climate and society requires creative alternative models for living.

A locally based vision of renewable energy generation could eliminate global or national-level domination of the energy infrastructure by a few large players, and thus the concentration of profits in the hands of a very few. It could also reduce our greenhouse gas emissions to very low levels, comparable to the emissions before the industrial revolution.

Around the globe, seed lending libraries have been sprouting up in public libraries. The seed libraries function very much like regular libraries, except instead of books, you check out seeds and bring them back once you’ve harvested them. These programs aim to improve access to seeds and preserve seeds for future generations. Seed libraries are just one way people can share seeds.
